COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ARLnow released the nominees for Best Pizza Place in Arlington as part of its Readers’ Choice awards, and readers have two weeks to vote or write in a favorite if one is missing—voting for the Best Coffee Shop category will end next Friday at 8:30 a.m.  ARLnow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • McDonald’s is remodeling a restaurant at 4834 Langston Blvd that will open in November to replace the old building that closed seven months ago. The new site will have self-order kiosks—an outdoor patio and a two-lane drive-thru designed to improve ordering efficiency.  ARLnow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arlington Public Schools leaders announced a new adopt-a-school initiative at a School Board meeting Thursday to formalize partnerships with local business and civic groups—30% of schools had no such links before. School officials said the plan will boost volunteer support for programs like facility improvements and mentoring for low-income students.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arlington and D.C. police announced road closures for the Army Ten-Miler race on Sunday and the Snallygaster festival running from Friday evening until early Sunday—major roads will be shut at various times, which may cause travel delays. Residents should plan ahead as officials adjust street access and parking to ensure public safety.  WTOP

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bright MLS data from Oct. 10 shows that 60 Arlington single-family homes closed in September at an average sales price of $1,813,759—a 23.5% increase over last year—while larger homes with four or more bedrooms sold for above $2 million as older homes are replaced by larger ones. Rising active listings and a total of 184 closings countywide gave buyers more choices and helped moderate price trends.  ARLnow
