COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Arlington Restaurant Week starts Monday, Oct 13 and will run through Oct 20—over 80 local restaurants will offer discounts, specials, and prix fixe meals as part of the annual promotion by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.  ARLnow
  • More than 1,500 Arlington residents have signed up for a No Kings day of action that will hold several demonstrations next week, including a seniors-led march from Memorial Bridge into D.C. and a protest at Welburn Square in Ballston—events planned for Saturday, Oct. 18.  ARLnow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The owners of Pirouette Cafe & Wine Shop in Ballston announced that they will close the restaurant due to rising operating costs and declining sales, with final service scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18 at 4000 Fairfax Drive—staff were laid off and personal funds exhausted as sales dropped over the past months.  ARLnow

CRIME NEWS

  • Emails obtained through a FOIA request revealed that registered sex offender Richard Cox—using the alias Riki Cox—emailed school board member Kathleen Clark in October about using girls’ locker rooms at school and pool facilities, and he later reportedly repeated these exposures while facing multiple charges in Arlington.  WJLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Tim Kaine defended Jay Jones after text messages from 2022 sparked calls for his withdrawal from the attorney general race—Kaine said his 25 years of knowing Jones outweigh the uncharacteristic comments while voters decide as early voting continues.  WJLA
  • Arlington election officials have decided that Long Bridge Park will not serve as an early-voting site in 2028 because it had low turnout and is hard to reach — they are now looking for more accessible locations. They will also add new precincts to handle growing voter numbers and reduce long lines experienced in previous elections.  ARLnow

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Arlington restaurants Ruthie's All-Day and Our Mom Eugenia were named in the Washington Post's 40 Best Restaurants in and Around D.C. list released Wednesday, with food critic Tom Sietsema praising Ruthie's Southern-style dishes and Eugenia's comforting Greek fare.  ARLnow
