CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The final episode of the ARLnow podcast season featured ACFD firefighter Alexander Brahmstedt who discussed key Arlington stories from the past week—highlighting a local centenarian, a museum seeking a permanent home, and the permanent display of the Reclining Statue of Liberty. The episode also included an interview on firefighting challenges and marked longtime reporter Vernon Miles' last day. ARLnow
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Railway Express said service between DC and Virginia will be scaled back starting January 2026 during the Long Bridge Project, which will build seven new bridges and require daily rail closures from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. for about five years plus riders on the Fredericksburg and Manassas lines may end trips at Alexandria where transfers to Metro and schedule changes for Amtrak and freight trains are expected. - ➤ Metro stations at Rosslyn and Arlington National Cemetery are closed this weekend and the Blue Line will not serve much of National Landing. Free shuttle services will run on Saturday and Sunday—covering routes from Foggy Bottom to Rosslyn and Courthouse—and Yellow Line service will continue at Crystal City, Pentagon City and the Pentagon. - ➤ Joyce Motors, a family-owned auto shop that operated for 85 years at 3211 10th Street N. in Clarendon, will close on Friday, Oct. 10 for a redevelopment that plans an 11-story apartment building with ground floor retail and nine affordable units—a farewell gathering is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11.
