- ➤ Swings for Sam 2025 is scheduled for October 4th at 9:00 a.m. at Bronson Bierhall and will feature kettlebell swings, yoga, a brunch buffet, and raffles to raise funds for Dr. Sam—a physical therapist battling ALS whose ticket sales and donations will fully support his family. ARLnow
- ➤ Vernon Miles ended his seven-year run at ARLnow and its sister sites to join FOX 5 as a writer and producer. He said he was excited for the rush of TV news but would miss the creative freedom of local reporting—stories that brought Arlington to life. ARLnow
- ➤ Piney is a five-year-old rabbit up for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington who is litter trained and enjoys playful games like stacking cups and racing through cat tunnels. She is a gentle, vocal bunny and a true foodie—loving parsley, romaine, carrots, and berries. ARLnow
- ➤ Clarendon Day returns this Saturday with over 150 local artisans, businesses, nonprofits and restaurants hosting a street festival that starts at 11 a.m. around Clarendon Metro station on Wilson Blvd—local bands will perform and road closures on Wilson Blvd, Clarendon Blvd, N. Highland, N. Hudson and N. Herndon will affect traffic until 10 p.m. ARLnow

- ➤ Rock Spring Congregational United Church of Christ at 5010 Little Falls Road is hosting Spotlight on Gaza—A Wake-Up Call for Christians—to immerse visitors in scenes of suffering in Palestine starting Saturday at 2:15 p.m. Organizers say the exhibit, which shows photos, video, and audio of conflict, is meant to prompt action among Christians. - ➤ A Capital Area Food Bank report showed that thousands of laid-off federal workers were among 1.5 million people in the D.C.-metro area facing food insecurity between May 2024 and May 2025—survey results indicated that 36% of respondents struggled to access enough food with some counties reporting rates up to 49%. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Arlington Public Schools will start new bullying prevention lessons in October after surveys and parent requests showed a need for more support—counselors, psychologists and social workers will teach students from kindergarten through 12th grade about bullying behavior, self-identity and reporting incidents in line with state standards. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arlington County plans a new boathouse in Rosslyn but disability advocates expressed concerns during a Sept. 15 meeting that parking on federal land may hinder adaptive-rowing access — prompting commissioners to meet with county staff for better parking solutions at an Oct. 20 session. ARLnow
- ➤ At a Sept. 11 meeting, members of Arlington’s reconstituted Human Rights Commission discussed clarifying their enforcement powers when county staff mediation fails, noting that nearly all human rights complaints are resolved at the staff level and any formal steps would require County Board and legal advice—an approach still untested under the new ordinance. - ➤ Arlington high-school football teams have started this season with a combined 10 wins—the best total since 2014—as each squad has recorded at least one victory, with the Washington-Liberty Generals at 4-0, Wakefield Warriors at 3-1, Yorktown Patriots at 2-2, and Bishop O’Connell Knights at 1-3.
