COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Rosslyn BID opened a half-acre pop-up park called NOW yesterday at 1401 Wilson Blvd and 1400 Key Blvd, offering a gathering zone, urban garden, and pet relief area—designed to meet community needs until future redevelopment begins. The park will host events like Fall Fest on Oct. 4 while the area awaits plans by Monday Properties.  ARLnow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After his D.C. shop closed, John Tran opened Simply Banh Mi at 801 N. Quincy Street in Ballston where the extra space now includes a dining room and a mini mart that benefits Hope for Children in Vietnam—local customers have given it a warm welcome. The restaurant operates Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m.–8 p.m.  ARLnow
  • The Porch Parade offers premium pumpkin decor with packages up to $1,450 for Arlington porches—delivery, design and removal are included. Former federal workers Andrea Samuelson and Anusha Seneviratne launched the business after job cuts, and it will begin deliveries from local farms this month.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early voting for Virginia’s Nov. 4 General and Special Election begins today and will run until Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. In Arlington, voters can cast their ballots at the Courthouse Plaza at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.—its hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on select dates.  DC News Now
  • Virginia joined a lawsuit with the FTC against Ticketmaster to stop inflated ticket prices and unfair bot use, Attorney General Jason Miyares said on Thursday—now the state seeks a court order to enforce the BOTS Act.  WJLA

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new 432-unit affordable housing building called The Sweeney broke ground on September 17th at the Crystal House complex in National Landing—one of the largest affordable projects in decades—and will deliver affordable homes in early 2028 through a public-private partnership that included support from Amazon’s housing fund.  ARLnow

  • Wakefield Warriors won 34-20 against Lewis Lancers on Sept. 12 in a non-district game that built the team's confidence with a tight finish.
