- ➤ Peri Peri Original and Kallisto Steakhouse in Crystal City will close next month and soon be replaced by Nash and Smashed—an expanding Nashville-inspired chicken and burger chain that applied for a permit earlier this week and may open later this fall. ARLnow

- ➤ Shirlington’s annual Celtic Festival returns this weekend as Samuel Beckett’s Irish Gastro Pub hosts the free event on Campbell Avenue from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday—road closures will affect parking and traffic, so attendees are urged to use alternative transportation options. ARLnow

- ➤ Arlington Public Schools announced a pilot reading program called Readers Rise after a parent push revealed gaps in student reading. - ➤ Arlington County Board is set to review two redevelopment proposals and allocate $4.9M for street improvements along with planned renovations at Lacey Woods Park at its Sept. 13 meeting—county staff will also consider grants for local arts, digital equity, food security, opioid recovery and workforce development—public hearings on zoning changes will shape these decisions.
