CULTURE NEWS

  • Arlington’s largest free outdoor music festival will return this weekend at Rosslyn’s Gateway Park when the 33rd Rosslyn Jazz Fest is scheduled for Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. and will feature Grammy-nominated Southern Avenue as headliner—NBC4’s Tommy McFly will serve as emcee while food trucks and outdoor bars offer fare.  ARLnow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arlington Public Schools' internal audit found unsatisfactory controls for tech equipment storage and a lack of clear procedures, so officials plan to improve inventory tracking and standardize IT practices by the end of the school year—School Board members reviewed the report on Aug.21.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County staff believe a second left-turn lane on Langston Blvd will ease rush-hour backups from vehicles accessing westbound I-66, and the board will be asked on Sept. 13 for $1.5 million from VDOT to add the lane by squeezing the bridge median—while county officials also plan to seek $5 million to build a new Arlington Blvd trail linking current segments for better pedestrian access.  ARLnow
  • Advocates from Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement pressed Arlington County at a recent Housing Commission meeting to ease regulations on affordable housing construction on faith-based and nonprofit lands—arguing that current rules delay projects like Clarendon Presbyterian’s senior housing plan and add extra costs. The proposed Yes in God’s Backyard initiative will be recommended to the Board for the 2026 General Assembly package after further review later this month.  ARLnow
