COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local church and artist put stickers on Arlington sidewalks to mark places where ICE reportedly detained people—using an image of an outstretched hand and two hearts. The project, led by Arlington Presbyterian Church and artist Sushmita Mazumdar, will keep adding stickers in South Arlington and Rosslyn—marking safe spaces for community members.  DC News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Arlington firefighters rescued a man from an overturned car on Interstate 66's exit ramp near Route 110 on Tuesday—he was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries as crews worked to clear highway lanes.  DC News Now

  • A new Filipino breakfast and pastry shop opened in Pentagon City over the weekend at 1417 S. Fern Street. Culinary siblings Stella and Javier Fernandez launched Gwenie's Pastries x Lapu Lapu to serve Filipino sandwiches, baked goods, and signature soft serve with plans to hold a grand opening next week.  ARLnow

CRIME NEWS

  • Arlington County Police arrested 15 suspects on Aug. 22 in Pentagon City after a focused enforcement effort recovered thousands of dollars of stolen merchandise+ the suspects face charges including petit larceny, narcotics violations, and obstruction of justice when one suspect threatened officers.  ARLnow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After more than a decade of redevelopment, Kinhaven School returned to its new Ballston space yesterday—marking the final phase of transforming the Central United Methodist Church site into a project that now includes affordable housing and redesigned church space. The preschool, built for children up to five, will serve up to 100 students after County Board members reduced its originally approved capacity.  ARLnow

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • For the first time in months, the median rent for a two-bedroom Arlington apartment dropped below $3,000, with one-bedroom units at $2,473 and all sizes at $2,627 according to Apartment List’s August report. Arlington remains the most expensive rental market outside California—its median rate is nearly 20% higher than the D.C. metro area and rates are expected to drop further through early 2026.  ARLnow

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Aug. 28, the Washington-Liberty Generals defeated Bishop O’Connell 55-22 in their season opener, ending 42 years without a meeting — the home team overcame five turnovers and dropped passes to rally from a 7-0 deficit. Key plays from Brayden Black, who rushed for 121 yards, and junior defensive back Miles Whitaker, who intercepted two passes for touchdowns, helped the Generals amass 379 total yards.  ARLnow
  • Arlington young athletes ages 8—18 can try water polo for free this week at the St James in a session that will offer skills training and elite coaching from former NCAA Division I and World Cup athletes. The learn-to-play event will begin Sept 8th at 7 p.m.—registration is required to secure a spot.  ARLnow
