- ➤ Arlington is a cybersecurity hub with nearly 200 companies and about 5,000 professionals working in cyber services, products, and research. This fall the city will host events including a cybersecurity summit from Sept. 9 to 12, a women's cyber conference on Oct. 9, and a cyber summit on Oct. 28 that will showcase local firms and awards. - ➤ Waymo has been testing its self-driving cars on D.C. streets and making routine charging stops in Arlington as part of its plan to launch a taxi service in D.C. in 2026 — a vehicle was seen at a Safeway parking lot in Maywood and was manually driven at that time. ARLnow
- ➤ A new 36-story Hilton hotel opened for business yesterday in Rosslyn and now offers 331 guest rooms, a bar, two eateries—Locket restaurant and Scott's Coffee Shop & Mart—and 14 event spaces covering nearly 30,000 square feet. ARLnow
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Two new stumbling stones honoring enslaved individuals Con and Killemacse were unveiled on August 24 in Boulevard Manor at 516 N. Livingston Street to remember their lives on farmland in the mid 1700s. The markers are part of an initiative by the Arlington Historical Society and Black Heritage Museum to preserve memory — additional plaques will be funded each year with community sponsor support.
