CRIME NEWS

  • Late Saturday night, a man was hospitalized after five men assaulted him with a bat and brandished machetes during a robbery on the 4800 block of Columbia Pike in Arlington—police later arrested three suspects including Marvin Ruano, Jeffrey Luna and Gustavo Flores.  WJLA
  • On Aug. 17 just before 8:30 p.m., Arlington police said Logan Chrisinger shot his mother in an apartment on the 3400 block of Fairfax Drive near Ballston Virginia Square, and she died at a hospital while he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and using a firearm in a felony.  DC News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Arlington Public Schools has updated its online back-to-school packet—accessible via ParentVUE—with clearer language and fewer steps to help families update emergency contacts by Oct. 13 as classes start on Monday, Aug. 25. School officials have revised cellphone policies by school level and are planning new projects to support student well-being—with a full report on these changes set for Aug. 21.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arlington dog licensing is now done online through a two-step process that takes up to five business days for review—Treasurer Carla de la Pava said officials will soon upgrade it so all steps can be completed at once.  ARLnow
  • On Monday, a fire alarm in the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan Airport delayed 61 flights as the FAA slowed inbound traffic. Officials said the tower remained fully operational even though some flights were delayed an average of 39 minutes with some delays extending over an hour.  DC News Now
  • Arlington’s tax-delinquency rate increased slightly to 0.18% from 0.17% last year despite the treasurer’s office efforts. Treasurer Carla de la Pava announced plans to use QR codes and allow partial payments — actions aimed at clearing overdue bills and meeting a new target of 0.157%.  ARLnow
