- ➤ A summer of free events is winding down at Pentagon City's Metropolitan Park, where Amazon and local partners will host live music, outdoor movies, crafts and a free banana split celebration on Aug. 25. The park will also offer Cars and Coffee on S. Elm Street on Sundays from 8-10 a.m.—with additional music and art events scheduled throughout August. ARLnow
- ➤ Arlington County Fair will begin next Wednesday, August 13, and run until Sunday with free entry, live entertainment and food-eating contests at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center—where a relocated beer garden now sits next to the main stage following a County Board decision. The event offers family-friendly activities including a foam party, planetarium dome and competitive contests, and transit is recommended due to limited parking. ARLnow

- ➤ A CBS News analysis found that nearly 6% of flights at Reagan National were canceled from Memorial Day to mid-July because fierce summer storms disrupted schedules — marking a 274% increase from last summer. ARLnow
- ➤ Arlington is forging a new path in dual-use technology innovation—tying defense needs with commercial opportunities through a new series of startup events. The first event in April connected 24 startups with over 30 venture capital firms, and a second round will be held on Oct. 21 with applications open until Sept. 1. ARLnow

- ➤ DMV school districts are preparing for the 2025-26 school year with several updates such as free school meals in Culpeper County and new digital device policies in Stafford County while Arlington County Public Schools have not yet provided their guidelines. Falls Church City Public Schools announced a new superintendent and many districts are still responding to inquiries & clarifying their plans. WJLA

- ➤ Arlington County updated its online dashboard with help from Eco Counter to track over 7.8 million pedestrian and bicyclist passages recorded at 35 sites since the start of the year. The tool shows traffic at key spots—such as Key Bridge and the Crystal City Connector—and will help support safety studies and future grant applications. ARLnow
- ➤ U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced Tuesday that the Confederate memorial will be returned to Arlington National Cemetery. The restoration will cost about $10 million over the next two years — it is expected to be reinstalled with context panels in 2027. WTOP

- ➤ UnitedHealthcare and Johns Hopkins have stalled negotiations and if a new contract is not reached by Aug. 25, nearly 60,000 patients in the DMV region— including one couple expecting their baby next month— will lose in-network coverage.
