- ➤ The Portofino Restaurant, one of the oldest on Restaurant Row in Crystal City, has celebrated 55 years in business since January and will host a tomato-themed dinner on Sunday, Aug. 10 (costing $85 per person) with local heirloom tomatoes and Virginia wines to honor its long-running family tradition in Northern Italian cuisine. - ➤ Aspire Afterschool Learning in Arlington lost its AmeriCorps grant in April, which cut its operating budget by 30% and led the program to use most of the affected staff for its summer program. The nonprofit now plans to serve 125 students in the fall instead of its usual 160—while it runs a fundraiser to close a $260,000 gap over two years. WTOP

- ➤ Arlington County auditor Wayne Scott will review flood resilience efforts and other unresolved audits, with his plan adopted at a Tuesday County Board meeting following recommendations after the July 2019 floods — his review will begin in the second quarter of the fiscal year from October to December. This audit is part of a broader work plan that also tackles issues like public-safety overtime, housing grants, and contract management for technology services. ARLnow
- ➤ The Arlington County Board approved lowering speed limits from 30 mph to 25 mph on five roads based on safety studies & declared July Disability Pride Month to honor local disability organizations.
