- ➤ Westville—a neighborhood restaurant group from New York—will open its new Clarendon location on July 14 with 65 indoor seats and 30 outdoor seats and already offers delivery to local customers. - ➤ AirHelp’s annual report showed that Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport here in Arlington ranked among the worst U.S. airports with a score of 7.59—based on data collected from June 1st, 2024 to May 31st—when the agency measured service quality, on-time performance, claims processing, and food and shop options. - ➤ Antonio Ortiz, a 43-year-old from Philadelphia—previously convicted of drug offenses—was sentenced to 15 years in prison in Arlington for distributing cocaine across state lines. DC News Now

- ➤ A Thomas Jefferson High School junior has developed a beta version of his app — Swype AI — that helps people with motor disabilities use their computers with their smartphones after raising $5,000 and consulting over 15 accessibility groups; he plans to launch it publicly in two to three months. - ➤ On July 8, the Virginia Court of Appeals reversed its previous decision and declared Arlington’s Missing Middle Housing/Expanded Housing Options zoning invalid— a ruling made on procedural grounds after a late developer intervention request at trial. The Arlington County Board is now considering its next steps for pending EHO permits and housing options in the community. WJLA
- ➤ Arlington County announced a $5M project to consolidate emergency response services by moving the Emergency Operations Center, Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management, and a new Situational Awareness Intelligence Unit into the Bozman Government Center later this year—construction at 2100 Clarendon Blvd will begin this fall and last for about one year while the EOC remains at its current location. - ➤ A new 355-unit apartment building called Valen began leasing in Crystal City at 2050 S. Bell Street with one, two, and three-bedroom apartments and a rooftop pool.
