  • Chihuahua Bodhi, a 16-pound mix in foster care at Homeward Trails Animal Shelter, is looking for a loving home after his previous family moved—his foster said he is gentle, fully house-trained, and loves belly and neck scratches.  ARLnow
  • Last week, Arlington residents gathered at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association headquarters in Ballston for the Arlington Cares event where more than 200 volunteers were honored for their service. Award recipients, including Erika Yalowitz and Maddy Sleeter, were recognized for contributions valued at nearly $1.3 million — the event highlighted the community’s strong commitment to helping others.  ARLnow

  • Bar Colline, a French-style bistro at 269 19th Court S in Crystal City, will open this Friday to serve French-American food for Bastille Day — the Hilton brothers plan to offer a long bar, outdoor tables for 40 and a small dining room for 16 guests.  ARLnow

CRIME NEWS

  • New video shows convicted Tier III sex offender Richard Cox leaving a water park for kids in Fairfax County and walking toward a playground—while Arlington police have charged him for nearly identical behavior at local facilities—as his trial in Arlington is set later this year.  WJLA
  • ACPD reported that on Saturday, July 5, a 25-year-old woman was arrested after she slashed a man's tire and kicked an officer at 1:45 a.m. on Columbia Pike—Foxcroft Heights—and a 70-year-old man was taken into custody after he stabbed an acquaintance at 6:30 a.m. in a nearby home; a July 3 traffic stop in Long Branch Creek led to the seizure of drugs and over $10,000 from a 19-year-old driver.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arlington County Board will review a proposal on Saturday, July 19 to lower speed limits on designated bicycle boulevards from 25 mph to 20 mph if a traffic study supports the change — county staff say the update is meant to protect bicyclists and pedestrians.  ARLnow
  • An audit of the STAR program for Arlington residents with disabilities found major deficiencies such as billing discrepancies and a lack of review of driver manifests by WeDriveU, and county leaders say they will work to fix these issues even though some contractual changes may take time—auditors plan a follow-up review next summer to check progress.  ARLnow
