  • Pentagon City’s second annual Juneteenth Community Day will take place on June 19 at 4 p.m. at Metropolitan Park (1330 S. Fair Street), as Arlington nonprofit Challenging Racism hosts a free event featuring live music, performances and food trucks.  ARLnow

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Arlington-based Technomics today announced a $5,375,750 expansion that will add 25,200 square feet of office space and create 248 new jobs at its Crystal City office. Governor Youngkin, Arlington County Board Chair Karantonis, state Sen. Adam Ebbin and Del. Adele McClure praised the project—citing it as a boost to local business amid federal spending cutbacks.  ARLnow
  • At least 10 local businesses have been listed for sale on BizBuySell in Arlington, including a Ballston fitness studio, a mini-mart and several restaurants; the listings provide detailed information on square footage and price points to guide prospective buyers.  ARLnow

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bronze stumbling stone markers honoring Thornton and Daniel Check, two brothers born into slavery in the 1820s, have been placed on Columbia Pike at the S. Ode Street intersection—reflecting their legacy. The markers were unveiled on June 7—part of a county-supported effort to place 30 markers each year to honor those held in bondage in Arlington.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senate committee leaders sent a letter calling for independent audits of FAA safety protocols and Army pilot training after a January midair collision near Reagan National Airport killed 67 people and a May 1 training flight prompted go-around orders for two commercial planes+the audits will review airspace design and helicopter maintenance to help prevent future incidents.  WJLA
  • The County Board will consider buying two Arlington single-family homes on Saturday for open space and stormwater management. The board will purchase the home at 6915 29th Street N. for $218,536 plus an estimated $5,000 in closing fees and $350,000 for demolition, while the 1922 N. Upton Street home is priced at $1.1 million with about $400,000 expected for razing and debris removal.  ARLnow
