GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Some Arlington critics said they were right after D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced plans to end the 2.2-mile H Street streetcar line in favor of electric buses—arguing that a similar streetcar system on Columbia Pike would have been too costly and slowed transit service. They believe today's decision shows Arlington avoided a burdensome project that would have strained taxpayers and disrupted local travel. ARLnow
- ➤ Metro will launch its new bus network on June 29— all routes will get new names with eleven additional routes running every 12 to 20 minutes. Leaders expect the plan to carry 13 to 15 thousand more riders daily, and many passengers say the changes will help them get to work and school. DC News Now
- ➤ Metro began enforcing a stricter rule on public transit on June 2 to keep riders safe from serious offenses. The new rule sets bans of 45 days for a first offense, 90 days for a second offense and up to one year for a third offense — riders may appeal bans and get a decision within 15 days. DC News Now
