  • Seventeen-year-old Caroline Mohamadi started Play it FWD to help kids join sports by organizing donation drives for gently used equipment—she has collected 900 items valued at $30,000 while working with local schools in the DMV area.  NBC Washington

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bishop O’Connell Knights baseball players Noah Haught and Jack Woda were named first-team all-state for Division I after strong play in the 2025 private-school season—Haught led with a .443 average and 35 hits while junior catcher Woda hit .359 with 13 doubles and 3 home runs. Haught will play college baseball at the University of Richmond and Woda has committed to East Carolina University as the team finished 20-6 and reached as high as fourth in the state poll.  ARLnow
  • The Wakefield High girls varsity eight finished fifth at the National Championship Regatta in New Jersey over Memorial Day weekend with a time of 5:04.29. They became the only Virginia team in the final and the highest finishing D.C.-area boat by beating Bethesda Chevy Chase, and coach Russell Topp said they met their long-term goal for two straight years.  ARLnow
  • At a May 31 NVADACA breakfast banquet held at Springfield Golf and Country Club, 27 high school seniors were awarded $5,000 scholarships with four recipients from Arlington public schools - Margaret Flannery-Goodman from Yorktown, Sydney Lowe and Isabelle Young-Smith from Wakefield, and Kelly McIntyre from Washington-Liberty.  ARLnow
  • On May 29, the Yorktown boys and girls lacrosse teams lost the 6D North Region championship games, with the boys falling 15-6 to Langley at home and the girls losing 12-8 to Madison on the road in Vienna. Both teams fell behind early and now prepare for their state tournaments next week (girls coach Jenny Tran earned her 100th win in the tournament).  ARLnow
  • At the Better Sports Club’s 69th awards banquet held (May 28) at Knights of Columbus Hall, Arlington high school head coaches and 32 senior athletes were honored for excellence in sports, academics and community service. Club president Dave Sterling and announcer Doug Hughes led the event, which highlighted top awards for Olivia Stafford and Jon Malatesta (named Female and Male High School Student-Athlete of the Year, respectively).  ARLnow
