  • Arlington entrepreneur Dave Doctor launched LostAF, a product that uses QR code stickers to help people find lost items—users scan the sticker to send a message to the owner's email. The stickers are available free at select stores and online, and Doctor hopes to expand the service to more public venues soon—helping protect owners' personal info.  ARLnow

CRIME NEWS

  • A suspicious fire broke out at a garden apartment building near Columbia Pike around 5 a.m. on May 15 and firefighters rescued several residents using ladders while medics evaluated at least five people, with two taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  ARLnow

CULTURE NEWS

  • The free annual Columbia Pike Blues Festival will take place on Saturday, June 14 along S. Walter Reed Drive to 9th Street S. on the Pike with live blues music and family activities—attendees are advised to park at garages or use transit. Longtime Arlington resident Rick Franklin will start the musical act at 1 p.m. and other local performers will continue until a closing set at 6:30 p.m.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arlington County Police Department will conduct SWAT team training at the abandoned Key Bridge Marriott at 1401 Langston Blvd from 8:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, and community members may notice increased law enforcement vehicles and noise—both as part of an indoor, closed exercise.  ARLnow
  • Arlington County is collecting feedback on a concept design for a raised intersection at the crossing of Vacation Lane and Lorcom Lane to address concerns about speeding vehicles and improve pedestrian safety for school routes—especially for students traveling to Dorothy Hamm Middle School and Zachary Taylor Elementary School. The design adds directional crosswalks, bollards and a detectable warning surface, and feedback is accepted until June 9.  ARLnow
