  • ARLnow offered a poll with nominees for Best Outdoor Dining Spot in Arlington as part of its Readers’ Choice awards with votes closing in two weeks—readers may submit their favorite restaurant if it is missing. The Best Ice Cream Shop contest remains open until next Friday at 9 a.m. and follows the recent vote on Best Lawn Care Services.  ARLnow

  • Virginia State Police issued a CODI Alert for missing 13-year-old Anabella Clara Santos, who was last seen walking on South Langley Street on Friday at 7:45 p.m.—she is 5'4", 130 pounds with brown hair and eyes, tied in a ponytail and wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts, green sandals, and white socks.  DC News Now

  • The traveling Sazon Latin Food Market will visit Clarendon on Sunday, June 1 at Arlington Beer Garden (3217 10th Street N.) where vendors will offer Latin American dishes, live music and drinks.  ARLnow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After serving Arlington for 50 years, Walker Chapel Preschool will close on June 13—its low enrollment drove the decision—and director Suzanne Romness said the short, traditional schedule did not meet families’ need for all-day care.  ARLnow
  • On May 15, the Arlington School Board split their vote on a proposal to mark Eid al-Adha by adding a holiday on June 6 and decided not to change the calendar because the last-minute shift would hurt school events. Some board members said they will work to plan better in the future—by noting that the holiday's date can change each year.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials at Arlington National Cemetery hosted a special ceremony that honored Army Air Force Staff Sergeant Frank Tedone, whose remains were identified using DNA technology after decades of uncertainty. Family members from across the country attended the funeral and expressed relief that their long-awaited promise was fulfilled—leaving no veteran behind.  WJLA
  • The Army will install heavy metal plates on Washington streets on June 14 to protect the pavement from 25 M1 Abrams tanks rolling in a parade marking the Army's 250th birthday—these plates will be set at key turns along the route starting from the Pentagon in Arlington. D.C. Mayor Bowser said repair funds should be included in the plan if the tanks cause damage.  NBC Washington
  • Arlington County announced Friday it will use a new 911 system called the Priority Dispatch System to help trained dispatchers handle over 80,000 emergency calls annually and improve response times. Medical and fire protocols will launch this month—police protocols will start in July.  DC News Now
