COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bike to Work Day will take place today rain or shine and encourages Arlington residents to bike to work, with BikeArlington hosting pit stops that offer free goodies (including first-come T-shirts, breakfast treats, and coffee) from local businesses. Capital Bikeshare is also providing a $5 discount on the first ride for new riders until May 17 with code BTWD25.  ARLnow
  • Arlington Palooza and two 5K races will occur this weekend and temporary road closures are planned in Arlington Forest, Rock Spring and Pentagon City. On Saturday, N. Park Drive from 3rd Street N to N. George Mason Drive will close from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.—and N. Delaware Street from N. Albermarle Street to 36th Street N will close from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.—while on Sunday, S. Joyce Street and Army Navy Drive will close from about 8 to 10:30 a.m. with increased police presence in the area.  ARLnow

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two large trees caused traffic delays and power outages in Arlington as one fell last night on the 2400 block of S. Walter Reed Drive near Shirlington—knocking out power for nearly 200 customers—while another fell at 5 a.m. on Spout Run Parkway and was cleared by 6:15 a.m., with rainy weather prompting the possibility of additional showers today.  ARLnow

  • Arlington Economic Development, Springboard Enterprises, and Deloitte are hosting DMV Dolphin Tank on June 11 from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Deloitte’s Rosslyn offices—this free event lets women-led tech startups pitch, receive expert coaching, and build valuable connections for growth.  ARLnow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Arlington County Board voted to stop APD from contacting ICE when an illegal immigrant is linked to gang activity, terrorism or human trafficking — the board approved the change — and the policy will take effect soon.  WJLA
  • The District Department of Transportation began work Monday on the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge's two-year rehabilitation—traffic changes include closing the movable zipper lane and reconfiguring travel lanes for 10 months. Next February, two lanes will close for deck replacement work while the zipper lane returns, and the project will last until at least 2027.  ARLnow
  • The Arlington County Board voted on Tuesday to limit how local police work with ICE by cutting two sections from its Trust Policy—aimed at rebuilding trust with immigrant communities. Critics warn the change may attract dangerous criminals while ICE still accesses a national detainee database.  WJLA

  • Arlington Realty reported that 50 properties in Arlington saw price cuts last week, including a craftsman-style home in Lyon Village (4 BD, 4.5 BA) with luxury finishes, multiple outdoor spaces, and a hot tub. In all, Arlington had 228 detached homes, 19 townhouses, and 220 condos for sale as of May 12 (latest update).  ARLnow
