COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Arlington Pride lost many sponsors for its events at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City as support fell from 50 last year to only two this year, said organizer Lindsey Hinton. Hinton said the drop may be due to national cuts in corporate diversity funding and local political concerns—factors that have made sponsors pull back. ARLnow
- ➤ Arlington officials and descendants of the first Black volunteer firefighters gathered on April 26 for the opening of the new Fire Station 8, honoring over 100 years of local heritage in public safety. The event included a fire hose uncoupling (used as a ribbon cutting) and plaque presentations to lifelong heroes while introducing the modern 20,000 square foot facility that will serve today’s needs. The Arlington Connection
- ➤ A new youth restorative justice program in Arlington started in August and has seen over 70 young people participate in diversion efforts for non-violent offenses like larcenies, assaults and trespassing—while leaders say the program still faces challenges in addressing the complex needs of its participants.
