COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Arlington County Police Department announced it will host quarterly community meetings starting this month to address local issues, crime prevention tips, and quality of life concerns (the first meeting is set for 6:30–8 p.m. on May 15 at Lubber Run Community Center). A second meeting is planned for May 22 at Arlington Mill Community Center (future sessions will rotate locations and offer virtual participation). ARLnow

- ➤ Scolapasta has shifted its plans from opening near Ballston Metro to operating a kiosk in the Ballston Quarter food court, next to Ice Cream Jubilee. Owner Burak Temel said the lease will be signed soon—today or tomorrow—and the restaurant will open in 90 days. ARLnow

- ➤ The Arlington School Board delayed its final budget vote until Thursday, May 15 so officials can finish reviewing state funding changes and tariff effects on supplies and projects. On May 1, board members honored four community volunteers for long-term school support — the Honored Citizens for 2025. ARLnow
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday night, severe storms caused over 2,500 Dominion Energy customers to lose power across Northern Virginia—79 of these outages were reported in Arlington. Most disruptions occurred in Stafford County and affected additional counties in the region. DC News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Army stopped flights near Reagan National Airport after two flights had to turn back last week when a Black Hawk helicopter flew near the Pentagon. The FAA had limited local air traffic and three flights turned back Monday due to a police helicopter—Army officials are now investigating the airspace safety. DC News Now
- ➤ In April, TSA officers at Reagan and Dulles recorded record checkpoint volumes on April 11—officials credited a busy spring travel period with the high numbers. DCA’s security director expects more traveler activity when REAL ID enforcement begins on May 7. WJLA
