CRIME NEWS

  • Arlington County Police said a car was towed from private property at the 4100 block of S. Four Mile Run Drive Saturday at 9:11 a.m.—they found a six-year-old child still inside at a tow company and are investigating the incident.  WJLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Washington-Liberty Generals boys lacrosse team won two close road games (11-9 and 9-6) against the Herndon Hornets and Lake Braddock Bruins, boosting their record to 10-2. Coach Clay Batley said the team learned from previous one-goal losses and increased their energy in the second half to secure the wins.  ARLnow
  • Marymount University Saints finished their undefeated 15-0 spring season by winning the Atlantic East Conference tournament championship at Bishop O’Connell High School on April 26 — they shut out Immaculata University 35-0 in the semifinals and Eastern University 12-0 in the final while their defense allowed only a safety during the season.  ARLnow
  • At Penn Relays in west Philadelphia, O’Connell Knights track teams competed with 13 athletes in four relay events and posted strong times; the boys 4×400 relay ran the school’s fastest time in 10 years—ranking it among the top 25 marks in Virginia. The teams ran in the Draper Invitational on May 2-3 and will run in the Catholic school state meet on May 10.  ARLnow
  • On April 26, the Wakefield crew team opened its season at the Al Urquia Regatta on Occoquan River, where both the girls and boys varsity eights won two final races before afternoon thunderstorms canceled most heats—showing a strong start to the season.  ARLnow
  • Marymount University Saints finished second in the Centennial Conference Championships, a two-day, 36-hole event at Waynesboro Country Club, and did not earn a berth to the NCAA Division III tournament — head coach Rob Ferguson said windy conditions affected the team’s first-round lead.  ARLnow
  • Maddy DeCou stepped down as head coach of the Washington-Liberty Generals girls basketball team after two winning seasons to become an assistant coach at Marymount University (her college team) where she played. Washington-Liberty is now seeking a new coach to lead the team.  ARLnow
