  • Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is expanding in Arlington and plans to replace Clarendon's longtime Nicecream, which will leave this fall after its landlord raised rent by over 50%. Permit records show the company is also considering a new location in Ballston at 4075 Wilson Blvd.  ARLnow
  • Sprouts Farmers Market confirmed it will open a new grocery store in Arlington in 2026 after filing a permit to renovate the vacant Giant at Lyon Village. The store will be located at 3115 Langston Blvd (as noted in the permit application) and will offer fresh, better-for-you products to the community.  ARLnow

CULTURE NEWS

  • Taylor Swift tribute band The Fearless Eras will perform at 9:30 p.m. tomorrow at The Renegade in Clarendon—charging $10 at the door and admitting only patrons aged 21 and over—with a three-hour set featuring about 40 songs from her career. The D.C.-area group formed in the local music scene and will hold an all-ages show in June at The Songbyrd Music House.  ARLnow
  • Vietnamese Americans in Arlington marked the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon by sharing stories of fleeing communist Vietnam and building new lives in a growing community. One family recounted a long journey with stops in Guam, Arkansas, and Texas before opening a bakery—while another family remembered posing as Hoa people to escape, underscoring the power of community.  WTOP
  • Theresa Esterlund, a Fairlington artist, opened her boutique Open to Being last weekend at 2424 26th Road S in Long Branch Creek— the shop sells handmade stationery such as cards, prints and notebooks made on an antique letterpress and will host group classes and private letterpress sessions.  ARLnow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After parents protested a budget cut that would have ended the Integration Station program for children with disabilities, Arlington Public Schools kept the program for the 2025-2026 school year. School leaders will form a review committee this fall — it will study PreK programs to decide any changes for future academic years.  WJLA

  • Campaigns for Arlington’s School Board, County Board and state delegate races have begun as Monique Moe Bryant faces June Prakash, Takis Karantonis contests against James DeVita, and Del. Patrick Hope is challenged by Sean Epstein and Arjoon Srikanth while early voting options open soon. At the state level, candidates Shannon Taylor and Jay Jones—vying for the attorney general spot—and a slate including Alexander Bastani, Ghazala Hashmi, Babur Lateef, Aaron Rouse, Victor Salgado, and Levar Stoney for lieutenant governor are launching competitive campaigns.  ARLnow
