- ➤ A Cinco de Mayo festival will occur Saturday, May 5 in Shirlington at Guapo’s Restaurant at 4028 Campbell Avenue starting at 11 a.m., featuring live music and special taco and drink deals. A portion of eastbound Campbell Avenue between S. Randolph and S. Quincy will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.—motorists are urged to follow police directions for safety. ARLnow
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On April 29, firefighters battled a heavy duplex blaze in Arlington’s Green Valley that broke out shortly before 10:45 a.m. near Drew Elementary School—additional units from Arlington and Alexandria responded as crews searched for a resident and a dog in the unit, and the fire was contained by 11:30 a.m. with no injuries reported. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ACPD contacted ICE 17 times (the most since 2022) since the start of the year, linked to rising crime rates. The Arlington County Board is reviewing its trust policy and will share updates at its May 10 meeting (officials say the move aims to protect all residents). ARLnow
- ➤ WMATA announced that it will remove at least 19 Arlington bus stops and three Falls Church stops on June 29 as part of its Better Bus Network Redesign project to improve ride frequency. Metrobus routes will also get new names and adjustments, including an extension of the 38B route to serve the Seven Corners Transit Center. ARLnow
- ➤ Arlington County will provide Arlington Meals on Wheels $105,000 in direct support in the coming fiscal year to help cover rising costs for delivering meals to older residents. The nonprofit requested local funding for the first time to secure food security for homebound community members. ARLnow
