- ➤ Road closures will affect roads in Clarendon, Ashton Heights, Lyon Park and Waverly Hills this weekend as the Arlington Festival of the Arts begins at 3 a.m. on Saturday and runs until 8 p.m. on Sunday. Additional closures for the Arlington Bunny Hop 5K race and the Earth Day Every Day Festival will block streets from 6:30 a.m. on Saturday through Sunday—officials advise using public transit when possible. - ➤ Three Arlington County residents are finalists for the 2025 Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Mid-Atlantic region. Qu CEO Amir Hudda, Symplicity CEO Matt Small + Zoobean CEO Felix Lloyd were selected by an independent panel and will be honored on June 18 so they can compete for the national title in November. - ➤ A permit application was filed on behalf of Sprouts Farmers Market to convert the vacant Giant grocery store at Lyon Village Shopping Center into a new store at 3115 Langston Blvd (the Giant served as the plaza's anchor store for 60 years). - ➤ Arlington police arrested teenagers for two robberies and assaults that took place Wednesday afternoon—one incident involved two teens in ski masks assaulting a boy who was taken to the hospital while an 18-year-old woman faced charges in a second robbery as police continue searching for another suspect. - ➤ A male registered sex offender, Richard Cox, who now identifies as a woman, was caught on surveillance video entering women’s locker rooms at several Arlington and Fairfax rec centers in 2024 near children, and he currently faces charges in Arlington as officials review county policies that allowed his access. - ➤ A new four-way traffic signal has been activated at the intersection of N. George Mason Drive and N. Park Drive near Lubber Run Community Center to improve safety after several crashes. The upgrade adds curb extensions, extra street lighting and marked crosswalks—funded by the county’s Transportation Capital Fund—and replaces short-term fixes put in place since December 2023. ARLnow
