BUSINESS NEWS

  • Life Alive Cafe will open in September in Ballston to offer vegetarian breakfast and lunch options in the former Bruegger's Bagels space (818 N. Quincy Street). GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County Board members will review proposals on Saturday at Central Library to redevelop a Green Valley site by razing two hotels for 531 new housing units and to convert a Claremont parcel into a Royal Farms restaurant/gas station — an agenda that also includes sidewalk improvements on S. Carlin Springs and the removal of an early-voting site saving about $27,000. They will further act next week on the fiscal budget and tax rates — following public hearings held last week.  ARLnow

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers plan a new seven-story, 83-foot-tall apartment building at 4601 Fairfax Drive in Ballston to replace a 12-story office building, and some site-plan review committee members and local residents worry the height is too low.
