GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Immigration activists gathered at the Arlington County Courthouse on Saturday, March 15 to protest a Trust Policy that lets local police help ICE — they urged the board to remove part of the policy while a board chair said he is open to a review.  WJLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arlington Forest diving team will compete in Division VI this summer after tying for the Division VII crown with a record of four wins and one loss last year, and their season starts Tuesday, June 17 at 6 p.m. at a road meet against Sleepy Hollow in Falls Church + three other Arlington teams are also competing in the Northern Virginia Swimming League.  ARLnow
  • Bishop O’Connell High School finished adding a new gray pressbox and 157 bright blue box seats behind home plate for the 2025 spring season. The seats replace old bench bleachers funded by a donation, and the field will host a home game on March 20 against the Yorktown Patriots—making it the only Arlington high school with this upgrade.  ARLnow
  • The Washington-Liberty baseball team is set to host the second Norwood Classic on Saturday, March 22nd at Quincy Park where four teams, including the defending champion Generals, will compete with games starting at 9:30 a.m. Alan Walker will throw out the first pitch and the event honors late coach Del Norwood — a celebrated member of four Halls of Fame — whose legacy shaped the team's success.  ARLnow
  • Two top scorers on the Bishop O’Connell Knights boys basketball team earned all-state honors this season as junior guard Darius Bivins was named to the first team and senior guard Shane Lincoln to the second team—helping the team finish 23-10 and advance to the state final with an overtime loss to Highland. They also played a key role in winning the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach last December.  ARLnow
  • At the Virginia State Championships in Lynchburg, the Arlington Tigers boys gymnastics program won the platinum state team title as Alex Epstein won the all-around competition and the floor exercise with a 10.1 score—other team members also earned top finishes in individual events at various levels.  ARLnow
  • Two young runners from Bishop O’Connell High School excelled at a late-season indoor track meet at George Mason University Field House. Sophomore Jayse Brefczynski won the mile in 4:34.24 while his teammate Peter Fleenor placed sixth in 4:43.43 — the team now prepares for the outdoor season with their next meet scheduled for March 24.  ARLnow
  • Two former O’Connell Knights teammates, Christian May of Towson and Cavan Reilly of Delaware, faced off in the Coastal Athletic Association semifinal—May had 12 points and four rebounds while Reilly scored 11 points as his team won 82 to 72.  ARLnow
  • Marymount University Saints finished the winter season with a 5-0 record to win the regular-season title and later placed second in the Division III Atlantic East Conference championships with a roster of 11 swimmers—only eight of whom competed in the postseason meet.  ARLnow
